Utilities

Its own Active Directory, following the HR records by itself

A utility company in the Caribbean Netherlands runs its own Active Directory on site. The accounts on it now follow the HR system, without anyone having to go to the server for it.

A server on site, and account management by hand

Not every organisation lives in the cloud. This utility company, with around two hundred employees, runs on its own Active Directory on site, and there are good reasons for that. But it also meant accounts there were managed by hand, while the employee records were kept somewhere else.

Working at a distance from the Netherlands has another consequence: you cannot just ask someone to put something right. If an account was wrong, someone on site had to work it out, between everything else. So it had to go right by itself.

What they wanted: HR as the source, even for a server that is not on the internet

The company wanted what a cloud organisation wants: a new employee in the HR system automatically getting an account, a change automatically carried through and a departure automatically closing the account. Only it had to land in an Active Directory that is not reachable from outside.

That is exactly the situation the Joinly Agent was made for: a small component that runs on site, talks to Active Directory and carries out Joinly's instructions without the server itself having to reach out.

An Active Directory on site does not have to mean manual work on site.

What was built: the Agent carries out on site what Joinly decides

Joinly reads the changes from the HR system and decides what has to happen. The Joinly Agent carries that out in the Active Directory on site: creating accounts, updating details and closing accounts on the end date.

Every change is recorded: which HR change was the trigger, what was carried out and when. That holds for what happens on a server on the other side of the ocean too.

Today: no manual work at a distance

The environment on site keeps pace with what happens in HR. Around twenty changes a month are handled without anyone going to the server, and without anyone in the Netherlands being involved.

The next step is managing the groups on that same Active Directory, so that permissions inside the environment follow the role as well. The basis for it is there: one source that knows who works there.
